I’m a huge fan of note-taking apps mainly because of how they’ve been optimized to make the average person more productive with their time and resources. With so many apps to consider, I’ve been able to narrow my focus to 3 in particular.

I’ve been taking notes (digitally) for almost 5 years and I have some opinions I’d like to share. I’ve done my best to leave my preferences out of the decision-making process here.

So here it goes:

1. Notion (Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, Web)

Notion is one of the few note-taking apps that comes with everything you’ll ever need. But what makes notion to top this list is the fact that you get a ton of tools and features to work with for $0.

Notion is best for single-users and small teams who are looking for ways to collaborate and streamline their project management process. It contains features which allows for Task Prioritization, Document Storage, File Sharing, etc.

Here’s 3 words I’ll use to describe my experience with Notion: Simple, Straightforward and Effortless. It has a clean user interface, an extremely easy learning curve and a cheap pricing option too. Really, if you’re looking to increase your productivity levels, Notion would be the perfect starting point. Download the app here.

2. Google Notes (Android, iOS, macOS, ChromeOS, Windows, Web)

Not only is Google Notes one of the best online note-taking apps, but it’s also 100% free. You get the entire package without ever thinking about paying a dime. And just like Notion, you get a ton of features that allows you stay organized, productive and effective.

One special feature I love about Google Notes is it’s ability to classify different notes in different categories. And Google Notes integrates with the rest of Google in other ways. Hence, if you’re an avid Google user (i.e your work-life revolves around the Google ecosystem e.g. Gmail, GDrive, etc.) then this would be the perfect note-taking app for you.

3. Evernote (Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, Web)

Similar to Notion and Google Notes, Evernote pushes the boundaries of what a note-taking app can — and should — do. Evernote is one of the oldest and most-featured note-taking apps and it was serves the purpose of ‘note-taking’ really well.

Evernote lets you create both simple and complex workflows using a combination of notebooks, notes and tags to keep everything organized.

One of its best features for gathering research is the Web Clipper extension (supported in Chrome, Firefox and Safari), which lets you save entire webpages — including text, images and PDFs — with a single click. Notes can be accessed on laptops, mobile devices and the web, so you’re rarely left with a situation where you can’t retrieve what you’ve saved.

With all that said, we’ve come to the end of my “non-biased” top 3 note taking apps.

Overall, The best note-taking apps make it simple and easy to organize essential information and store it for quick access.

Personally, I’ve worked with all 3 and my favourite is Notion, but the best app for notes will be the one that feels the most comfortable for you.
